Vatican denies celibacy led to sex abuse scandal

The Vatican on Sunday denied that its celibacy requirement for priests was the root cause of the clerical sex abuse scandal convulsing the church in Europe and again defended the pope’s handling of the crisis.

Suggestions that the celibacy rule was somehow responsible for the “deviant behavior” of a few priests have swirled in recent days, with opinion pieces in German newspapers blaming it for fueling abuse and even Italian commentators questioning the rule.

Much of the furor was spurred by comments from one of the pope’s closest advisers, Vienna archbishop Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn, who called this week for an honest examination of issues like celibacy and priestly education to root out the origins of abusive priests.

“Part of it is the question of celibacy, as well as the subject of character development. And part of it is a large portion of honesty, in the church but also in society,” he wrote in the online edition of his diocesan newsletter.

If you delve into the reasons behind celibacy in the RCC you’ll see it rooted in guess what? Come on you know what it is!  OK the reason was money/property. The RCC was afraid of losing those things when priests married had legal mistresses.  Surprising huh? I won’t get into the money/property issue here, as we all know if its not about money then its just not that important.

Now on to the issue of celibacy being the root cause of so much ‘deviant behavior’ over the centuries by priests, nuns, and other officials in the RCC.

First of all sex/sexual acts are only slightly less important than money with most humans.  In fact sex has proven to be in many cases more important than food.  So the RCC in their ban on marriage/sex sought to ban what most humans consider 2nd only to money.  Knowing human nature you know that’s not going to ever work.

Having said all that IMO celibacy isn’t the cause of pedophile behavior it just encourages it. Pedophiles look for opportunities to be around children. Pedophiles become school bus drivers, teachers, youth club advisors, Sunday school teachers, priests, nuns, preachers, etc, etc, etc.

So the RCC ban on marriage/sex was a ready made opportunely that the deviates began at once to take advantage of.

Then of course the RCC in order to cover up this sort of sick evil behavior began a planned denial and shuffling priests/nuns around the world in order to make the cover-up work.

Now we move on to the real crux of the matter. Who knew what in the RCC and for how long have they known?  The leadership including all the Popes past and present knew/know what was/is going on.  Did the leadership participate in this ‘deviant behavior’?  While I can’t be sure I’ll say this. “You can’t shovel cow manure without getting some on you.”

The leadership of the RCC is at fault here as the fish rots from the head down the Popes and the Vatican are as rotten as they come.

BTW I don’t have a higher opinion of Protestant, Muslim, Jewish leadership. Organized religion is big business and its never going to be anything else. What ever you believe or pray to is your business and you don’t need to go money hand to any priest, preacher, mullah, rabbi in order to do this. In other words organized religion is the creation of humans for fun and profit and has nothing at all to do with any Divine Deity.
