Islamic Law’s Influence in America a Growing Concern

March 31st, 2009 . by Basti

Islamic Law’s Influence in America a Growing Concern

As America’s Muslim population grows, so too does the influence of Islamic law, or Shariah, in daily life in the U.S.

“Shariah Law is the totality of the Muslim’s obligation,” said Abdullahi An-Na’im, a professor of law at Emory University in Atlanta. According to An-Na’im, Shariah is similar to Jewish Talmudic Law or Catholic Canon Law in that it guides an adherent’s moral conduct.

“As a citizen, I am a subject of the United States,” An-Na’im said. “I owe allegiance to the United States, to the Constitution of the United States. That is not inconsistent with observing a religious code in terms of my own personal behavior.”

While many view this as a testament to the “great American melting pot,” others see Islamic law’s growing influence as a threat. Shariah’s critics point to cases such as the airport in Minneapolis, where some Shariah-adherent taxi drivers made headlines in 2006 for refusing to pick up passengers they suspected of carrying liquor. The drivers’ aversion to alcohol stemmed from a verse in the Qur’an that describes “intoxicants and gambling” as “an abomination of Satan’s handiwork.”

SNIP

I’ll tell you what is really an abomination and a fine example of Satan’s handiwork, its ‘Sharia Law’.  Any ‘so called law’ that condones the stoning of women for adultery has no place in American tradition or law.  Any ‘so called law’ that condones terror tactics against non-Islamic people has no place in American tradition or law.

In fact Islam is completely evil un-American concept and it creeping influence is an even bigger threat to this nation than the galloping Socialism that ‘Comrade Obama’ is currently forcing on this nation

Once Upon A Time

March 30th, 2009 . by Basti

Once Upon A Time

Once upon a time many years ago I read a science fiction book. (I’ve long since forgotten the title, but the plot has stayed with me)  The author of the book set a premise where he said there were four ways for civilization to de-civilize.

(1)  A great war or plague that kills off so many people that civilization can’t maintain its cohesive nature nor has the bodies to keep it going.

(2)  A class war of some sort that kills off most of the people who make things work.  That would include everyone from engineers to telephone line.  Without the tech people who keep civilization running it all just grinds to halt as things wear out or are destroyed.

(3)  Some sort of religious upheaval that causes people to completely reject science and technology.  When this happens there aren’t enough tech people or science people to keep civilization going.

(4)  Any group of people who consider themselves the elite gather so much power that the mass of people rise up and in destroying this elite destroy the pillars of civilization.

I think there may be a number (5).  Toss is some plague, throw in some class war, mix in religious upheaval, and finally blend in the elite power grabbers.  Then mix vigorously at high speed until smooth.  This is where I think civilization is going as of this minute.  You see in the headlines everyday as the hype, lies, and rhetoric grow more shrill and people take up unassailable positions.

Of course in the book there was a tiny minority of heroic people who banned together to keep the lights of civilization burning while the rest of the world descended into a new Dark Age.  It makes for a good book, but I don’t see it in reality.  Heroic figures seem to be passé in today’s world as any who might be hero’s are soon savaged to bare bone by various special interests groups.

I’ve come to the conclusion that just maybe mankind doesn’t want to be civilized.  That just maybe the mass of people would be happier and more satisfied in living in barbarity as long as they could cling to what ever off-the-wall  belief system/lifestyle that they envision as Utopia.  In any event I think some of us are going to live to see how this will play out and I’m sure as hell certain it won’t be pretty.

Despite Red Flags About Judges, a Kickback Scheme Flourished

Despite Red Flags About Judges, a Kickback Scheme Flourished

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Things were different in the Luzerne County juvenile courtroom, and everyone knew it. Proceedings on average took less than two minutes. Detention center workers were told in advance how many juveniles to expect at the end of each day — even before hearings to determine their innocence or guilt. Lawyers told families not to bother hiring them. They would not be allowed to speak anyway.

“The judge’s whim is all that mattered in that courtroom,” said Marsha Levick, the legal director of the Juvenile Law Center, a child advocacy organization in Philadelphia, which began raising concerns about the court to state authorities in 1999. “The law was basically irrelevant.”

Last month, the law caught up with Judge Mark A. Ciavarella Jr., 58, who ran that juvenile court for 12 years, and Judge Michael T. Conahan, 56, a colleague on the county’s

FORMER GITMO GUARD GOES OVER TO THE DARK SIDE

FORMER GITMO GUARD GOES OVER TO THE DARK SIDE

The Guard Who Found Islam

Terry Holdbrooks stood watch over prisoners at Gitmo. What he saw made him adopt their faith.

Army specialist Terry Holdbrooks had been a guard at Guantánamo for about six months the night he had his life-altering conversation with detainee 590, a Moroccan also known as “the General.” This was early 2004, about halfway through Holdbrooks’s stint at Guantánamo with the 463rd Military Police Company. Until then, he’d spent most of his day shifts just doing his duty. He’d escort prisoners to interrogations or walk up and down the cellblock making sure they weren’t passing notes. But the midnight shifts were slow. “The only thing you really had to do was mop the center floor,” he says. So Holdbrooks began spending part of the night sitting cross-legged on the ground, talking to detainees through the metal mesh of their cell doors.

He developed a strong relationship with the General, whose real name is Ahmed Errachidi. Their late-night conversations led Holdbrooks to be more skeptical about the prison, he says, and made him think harder about his own life. Soon, Holdbrooks was ordering books on Arabic and Islam. During an evening talk with Errachidi in early 2004, the conversation turned to the shahada, the one-line statement of faith that marks the single requirement for converting to Islam (“There is no God but God and Muhammad is his prophet”). Holdbrooks pushed a pen and an index card through the mesh, and asked Errachidi to write out the shahada in English and transliterated Arabic. He then uttered the words aloud and, there on the floor of Guantánamo’s Camp Delta, became a Muslim.

When historians look back on Guantánamo, the harsh treatment of detainees and the trampling of due process will likely dominate the narrative. Holdbrooks, who left the military in 2005, saw his share. In interviews over recent weeks, he and another former guard told NEWSWEEK about degrading and sometimes sadistic acts against prisoners committed by soldiers, medics and interrogators who wanted revenge for the 9/11 attacks on America. But as the fog of secrecy slowly lifts from Guantánamo, other scenes are starting to emerge as well, including surprising interactions between guards and detainees on subjects like politics, religion and even music. The exchanges reveal curiosity on both sides—sometimes even empathy. “The detainees used to have conversations with the guards who showed some common respect toward them,” says Errachidi, who spent five years in Guantánamo and was released in 2007. “We talked about everything, normal things, and things [we had] in common,” he wrote to NEWSWEEK in an e-mail from his home in Morocco.

Edward Norton’s Earth Hour Plea Full of Hot Air

March 28th, 2009 . by Basti

Edward Norton’s Earth Hour Plea Full of Hot Air

Recently, when babysitting my 8-year-old niece, she had trouble with her homework and came to me for help. The assignment was based on Time for Kids, a weekly publication for elementary school children about the news of the day (much like Weekly Reader when I was growing up – does that still exist?). She had to explain in her own words what Earth Hour, coming up on March 28, was all about. Unfortunately, I couldn’t tell her to write “it’s a load of hogwash” – she would have failed the assignment. Such is the brainwashing and social engineering that goes on in our school system today.

But it’s too bad my niece didn’t have actor Edward Norton to look to for advice. Not only is he the official U.S. ambassador for Earth Hour 2009, but he was on CNN’s Larry King Live this week, along with Alanis Morissette, to explain just how this symbolic act of the entire world turning out their lights for one hour will encourage world leaders to cap or tax carbon emissions through legislation. Global unity and all that.

Norton even compared turning out the lights for an hour to the famous civil rights march in Selma, Alabama in March of 1965:

If you think about things in our national history, the march on Selma in the Civil Rights Movement, the march itself, unlike some of the boycotts they did was not a, was not an act in itself meant to change the problem. It was a symbolic act and I think this is for my generation, for many people around the world who care about this issue, I think we’re looking for those kind of symbolic acts that show how many people are, are concerned about this.

The only thing the march in Selma has in common with Earth Hour is that they both share the same month.  Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon these days for someone with a cause to promote to try to link it to the Civil Rights movement in order to give it legitimacy. Even The One himself claimed that his parents met at the Selma march in order to give His birth more meaning (even though He was three and a half years old when the first Selma march occurred).

SNIP

I’ve celebrated ‘Earth Hour’ by turning on every light in the house and outside the house.  I also made an unneeded trip to the mall today.

If I wanted any horse excrement out of these ‘so called celebrities’ I’d squeeze their heads to get it.

FAA wants to keep bird strike records confidential

FAA wants to keep bird strike records confidential

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Federal Aviation Administration is proposing to keep secret from travelers and the public its vast records on how frequently and where commercial planes are damaged by hitting flying birds.

The agency’s formal secrecy proposal came just after FAA officials had said they were going to release the huge database to The Associated Press in response to a Freedom of Information Act request.

As President Barack Obama promises a more open government, the FAA says it needs to expand secrecy to cover this safety data because if the public learned the information then airports and air carriers wouldn’t report damage from birds.

“To have the government actually chill public access to safety information is a step backward,” said James Hall, former chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board. “Public awareness is an essential part of any strong safety program.”

SNIP

“It sounds like the FAA is going back to their early 1990s view that their job is to promote the carriers and look out for their bottom line,” said Mary Schiavo, former Transportation Department inspector general. “They were criticized for that and then said they also were concerned with safety, but this sounds like they’re reverting to being cheerleaders for the industry.”

SNIP

The FAA’s proposal is reminiscent of NASA’s efforts in late 2007 to withhold air safety data from the AP because it claimed that revealing the information could damage the public’s confidence in airlines and affect airline profits. NASA released parts of the data months later under pressure from Congress and the public, disclosing thousands of pages that were deliberately scrambled so no one could identify the pilots who were promised anonymity to participate in the government safety survey.

Folks this isn’t a ‘national security issue’.  This is an agency of the Federal government deciding that we don’t need to know about bird strikes on aircraft.  It seems that the FAA is once again acting in the best interests of the industry and not in the best interests of the flying public.  It also appears that the FAA doesn’t want the public making their own informed decisions about when and from where we should fly.

Folks this is the same government that now wants to run medical care, nationalize banks, and generally be in charge of everything.  Personally I’ve never had any faith in government to do anything correctly.  Governments forte seems to lie in being part of the problem and never part of any solution.
