Campus Spies and Snitches
December 6th, 2008 . by BastiGreat ideas just keep pouring out of the academic world. This latest, from Queens University in Ontario, is a real winner.
The sages at Queens have decided to appoint “facilitators” to listen in on students’ private conversations in places like the lounge, the cafeteria, etc., and, if they hear anything politically incorrect, to “intervene.”
This is indescribably glorious, and bound to spread like herpes, only faster. Before you know it, it’ll be in every college campus in North America, and from there, move on into the general population.
It comes at a good time, too. What with our national economy on the ropes, there are going to be a lot of people, not just college students, needing jobs. And if our new president is wondering what to do with his proposed new “domestic security force” (having ignored our well-intentioned suggestions as to what he can do with it), what better use could he make of them than to “monitor” the conversations of their fellow citizens, and “intervene” when necessary?
At Queens U., the “facilitators” will be on the alert for racist and sexist expressions and unacceptable ideas about controversial social issues. When they hear such language, they will “intervene.” We are not told exactly how they’ll “intervene”–only that they are to “address intolerance” (“Intolerance will not be tolerated!”) in a way that constitutes “an opportunity for education.” Whether they will just butt in where they’re not wanted, or maybe take names and submit them to university officials, who will force the offenders into “sensitivity training,” is left to the imagination.
Nor do we know how the university will address the problem of the student body soon coming to know who the spies and snitches are, and either just clamming up until they go away, or moving themselves to a place where they might enjoy a little privacy, or else taking more proactive steps. Somehow I don’t think the “facilitators” will become the most popular guys and gals on campus.
But these are all just details to be worked out over time, until the college has a fully functional regime of thought control and everybody who’s not an informer learns to just shut up.
SNIP
I can see this catching on in the all over the US just as soon as ‘The Great Marxist’ gets his ‘civilian security force’ in place. Yep soon we’ll have ‘block wardens’ and ‘community captains’ where the ‘snitches and spies’ will report all ‘politically incorrect speech’ and ‘inappropriate behavior’. Then the ‘malcontents’ can be sent to a ‘reeducation camp’ where they can ‘brainwashed’ into towing the proper line.
Joe Stalin loves it when a plan comes together.
