U.S. turmoil fails to carry through to Europe

LONDON (Reuters) – World stocks were at near three-year lows on Tuesday but fears of a major market meltdown failed to carry through from Wall Street to Europe as confidence in bank rescue packages persisted.

The U.S. Congress’s rejection of a bank rescue plan tore nearly 9 percent off the broad S&P 500 on Monday but European shares and many Asian stock markets clawed back from early losses on hopes the U.S. plan would eventually go through.

U.S. stock index futures also pointed to a higher opening, suggesting belief that Monday’s selloff was over-done.

If anyone didn’t know that the US Stock Market was and still is overvalued then they’re as blind as bats!  The market has been overvalued at least since the mid-80′s.  Hell I can remember when it was being debated if the market would ever crack 1000 and its been above 13,000 and I’m only 63!

You can’t tell me that the market isn’t anything, but a sanctioned pyramid scheme and if you know how those work the ones at the top of the pyramid always come out smelling like roses and those below mid-level come out smelling like dog doo-doo.

If you’ve got your money invested in the market and now you’re in a panic, who’s fault is that?  No one to my knowledge has had a gun held on them and been forced to invest in the market.  No if you invested in the market of your own free will and you should have know the risks, because the risks have come back to bite people since there has been a Stock Market.  So if your investments/401K’s went south on you its your fault for making the investment and/or not getting out when the getting was good.  Neither my wife nor I have any 401K’s or market investments, so don’t ask me or others who don’t have market investments/401K’s to bail you out because that’s Socialism!

Top congressional and White House officials, stunned when the House rejected a massive rescue plan for the nation’s economy, scrambled to structure a new bailout proposal that would attract reluctant lawmakers and still soothe the unnerved financial markets.

“Doing nothing is not an option,” House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said after seeing the $700 billion emergency package for the nation’s financial systems fail 228-205 on Monday.

With the House not scheduled to meet again until Thursday, congressional leaders and Bush administration officials promptly sought to assess what types of changes could win over enough votes to guarantee success. President Bush planned to make a statement on the rescue plan at 8:45 a.m. EDT Tuesday.

The outcome of Monday’s vote fed a huge sell-off in the stock market, sending the Dow Jones Industrial Average into its biggest single-day plunge, 777 points. The House vote and the market’s terrified reaction shook Washington and New York centers of power — even overseas markets — but no immediate solution seemed at hand.

The bill’s failure came despite furious personal lobbying by Bush and support from House leaders of both parties. But the legislation was highly unpopular with the public, ideological groups on the left and the right organized against it, and Bush no longer wielded the influence to leverage tough votes. Even pressure in favor of the bill from some of the biggest special interests in Washington, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Realtors, could not sway enough votes.

The legislation the administration promoted would have allowed the government to buy bad mortgages and other deficient assets held by troubled financial institutions. If successful, advocates of the plan believed it would help lift a major weight off the already sputtering national economy.

Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson emerged after the vote and warned of a credit crunch that would affect American businesses and said families would find it harder to get student loans and car loans.

“We need to work as quickly as possible,” he said gravely. “We need to get something done.”

The sense of urgency was not universal. Many opponents of the bill argued that the package amounted to a too-costly commitment of taxpayer money to bail out financial institutions for their own mistakes.

Rep. Dean Heller, R-Nev., offered a typical sentiment. “I cannot with good conscience put Nevada’s taxpayers on the hook for the foolish excesses of Wall Street,” he said. “Congress should pass legislation that protects the taxpayer, assists with bad assets and allows the market to correct itself.”

We’re not out of the woods yet with the ‘bailout blackmail scam’, as the Congress-Critters are going to foist some bailout scam on the American public in order to the save their buddies on Wall Street and in the banks.

What I find that makes such a stark contrast with Wall Street/bankers and the average American is the following.  When we the public have complained about high gas prices, high food prices, and in fact high anything prices we don’t get a $700 billion bailout.  No what we get is the same old song and dance.  “Well the market will correct itself in the coming months or years.  The American people are just going to have to bite the bullet and suck it up.  The Fed’s can’t really get into pricing and so on.”

Now Wall Street is in chaos and banks are failing and none of this was caused by the American public at large.  However Wall Street and the bankers are squealing like the stuck pigs they are and the squealing is being heeded by their bought and paid for pol’s in Washington D.C.

I say that any Dem or Repub who votes for the bailout scam should then be defeated at the poll this coming November and sent packing.  Remember all 435 of these Congress-Critters are up for election in November and paybacks are hell.

Older white voters heavily favored Sen. Hillary Clinton over Sen. Barack Obama during the Democratic primary season, and national polls indicate that group now leans toward Sen. John McCain by 10 percentage points or more.

Pollsters and political scientists cannot pinpoint how much of that anti-Obama sentiment may be related to racial prejudice. But sociologists say their research indicates that implicit racial biases influence the voting decisions of many Americans of all ages—and that, for very basic physiological reasons related to the aging of their brains, many older citizens may be unable to suppress their prejudicial impulses, whether at the family dinner table or in the privacy of a voting booth.

“At some level, I would say we should not hold older adults responsible for their racist attitudes,” von Hippel said. “We call it ‘prejudice against your will,’ because we think it’s not something they can control.”

Father Kills Sex Offender Who Broke Into Home

INDIANAPOLIS —  A convicted sex offender died Sunday during a struggle with a father who found the naked man in or near his 17-year-old daughter’s bedroom, police said.

Police responding to a call from the city’s northwest side about 3:20 a.m. found 64-year-old Robert McNally on the hallway floor with his arm around the neck of 52-year-old David T. Meyers, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police spokesman Sgt. Matthew Mount said Meyers had a heart condition and may have had a heart attack. An autopsy was planned.

Police said Meyers was naked except for a mask and latex gloves and had entered the home through a window near the girl’s bedroom with rope, condoms and a knife. He was familiar with the home’s layout because it belonged to a relative, police said.

The girl awoke and screamed when she saw the man in her room, police said. The father responded and struggled with the intruder while the girl’s mother phoned 911.

Police did not anticipate any charges against McNally.

“If a person breaks into your home, you are justified in using deadly force in defending your family,” said Mount. “In this situation, I don’t think he was trying to kill him, he was trying to hold him down.”

Meyers had served 10 years in prison for criminal confinement and sexual deviate conduct and was wanted in Boone County for failure to register as a sex offender. He was registered as a sex offender in Marion County.

Austria is stunned by right’s election gains

Austrians struggled Monday to understand the reasons behind a resurgence of the far right, a day after the country’s two anti-immigration parties soared to almost 30 percent of the vote.

Some experts suggested the results Sunday reflected a deep-seated discontent with the outgoing governing coalition rather than a sign that Austrians were becoming more extremist.

The governing coalition between the center-left Social Democrats and the conservative People’s Party collapsed in July after an 18-month alliance that hit snags over tax reforms and EU policy changes.

Two rightist parties _ the Freedom Party and the Alliance for the Future of Austria _ won a combined 29 percent in Sunday’s balloting. Both parties advocate an end to immigration and the expulsion of foreigners and asylum seekers who commit crimes.

In contrast, the People’s Party and the Social Democrats had their worst showings since World War II. As a result, the leader of the People’s Party, Wilhelm Molterer, resigned Monday and announced that the 40-year-old agriculture minister, Josef Proell, would take his place.

“The dissatisfaction with the federal government manifested itself with a flow of voters to the Freedom Party and the Alliance for the Future of Austria,” said Christoph Hofinger, co-director of the SORA Institute on Social Research and Analysis.

The SORA Institute said the Social Democrats lost 171,000 more votes to the Freedom Party and 75,000 to the Alliance for the Future of Austria, while the People’s Party lost 149,000 supporters to the Alliance and 86,000 to the Freedom Party.

In addition, tens of thousands of traditional Social Democrat and People’s Party supporters stayed home, SORA said.

“Internationally, Austria is ‘Naziland’ yet again,” an opinion piece in the Die Presse newspaper said. “That is the big failure of the grand coalition.”

Obama supporters are being directed to get “in the faces” of independents and Republicans to make the case for their candidate and the case for you being a racist jerk if you don’t dream of Obammunism.

Michelle Malkin’s column at Townhall.com, “Obama Releases His “In-Your_Face” Hounds“, provides some insight into the Obamorons’ “face-to-face” strategy:

When Republicans get aggressive, it’s “dirty.” When Obama gets aggressive, it’s “feisty.” Exorteth the One: “I need you to go out and talk to your friends and talk to your neighbors. I want you to talk to them whether they are independent or whether they are Republican. I want you to argue with them and get in their face.”

Team Obama is so committed to this “face-to-face” shock troop campaign that it is now busing activists from state to state (”Drive for Change!”) to target undecided voters — and offering subsidies to volunteers. In advance of Obama’s rally in Nevada, California field director Mary Jane Stevenson organized a pilgrimage to boost the crowd numbers with housing incentives:

“Face-to-face contact with undecided voters is the single most effective way to grow this movement. No experience is required, and we’ll help you make the trip as easily as possible with either housing in Nevada or discounted group rates at an area hotel.”

Yep, a bunch of angry Obama cultists and left-wing ACORN drifters are coming to your neighborhoods to accuse you of racism, call you unpatriotic for not bowing down and forking over more taxes to keep the Mother Ship afloat, and check your tire pressure and thermostats while they’re at it. Feel the power of positive change.

I contend that there are several very good reasons to avoid an “in-your-face” moment with an Obamoron. Most of these reasons depend on the type of Obama supporter with which you are dealing, but there is the basic ignorance that all Obamorons share. Who wants to listen to the ignorant spewings of a raving lunatic, especially at close range? I bet they spit when they espouse the virtues of total government control.

The supporter type-dependent reasons you likely want to avoid these “in-your-face” confrontations areas follows:

• have their talking points scribbled on the one square of toilet paper they intend to use during their next restroom visit.
• profess the benefits of using only wind and solar power to generate electricity, while your sense of smell is violated by the wind carrying the odor from the activist that has spent too much time in the sun without bathing into your nostrils.
• stand there in leather shoes and yell at you about the affects of oil drilling on animals.
• knock you over, having noticed in mid-diatribe, an extremely attractive tree some distance behind you.
